Benigno Borikó Lopeo (1939-1981) was a visionary writer. He was also a scholar and Claretian missionary. He dedicated his life to preserving and promoting the cultural traditions of the Bubi people. These traditions are from Bioko Island (Equatorial Guinea). He was the first official researcher of Bubi culture. A Brief Biography
Born in 1939 in Basakato, Borikó grew up immersed in the oral traditions of the Bubi people. It was a small village on the island of Bioko. This contact with folklore and cultural practices fueled his passion for storytelling and cultural preservation. He chose the path of religious service. He joined the Claretian order. By traveling widely, he broadened his worldview. This deepened his appreciation for the importance of preserving indigenous cultures.
